For our baby boy’s first birthday, we chose a simple teddy bear theme for his birthday party. I researched and ordered everything in one morning and was able to pull off the party with minimal effort! We hosted the party at our house and the bear theme decorations were simple to achieve and turned out great!

Bear Theme Balloon Garland

One of the main focal points for the first birthday party was the 10 ft balloon garland from Etsy that we hung in our living room. The color combination of brown, taupe, peach, and white from the balloon arch was so perfect for our bear theme colors and also matched our home aesthetic (which is a plus)!

It was our first time assembling a balloon garland and we didn’t know what to expect. It took us a couple hours to inflate the balloons and assemble it in the garland string. (Trust us – you do NOT want to blow them up yourself. Use an electric balloon pump for your own sanity!)

We started the balloon garland the day before and hung it up on the curtain rods with string on the morning of. In hindsight, we would’ve hung it up the night before to save a bit of headache of figuring out the best way to hang from the curtain rods. We weren’t sure whether the balloons would deflate or not so we only inflated the day before the event. They did deflate ever so slightly by the next morning but it wasn’t that noticeable and still looked great!

The “one” balloon completed the whole look and we hung it by attaching one string on each letter to the balloon garland that was already hung from the rods.

Bear Birthday Party Decorations

We kept all other bear birthday decorations pretty simple with a minimalist look. The brown bear plates and gray bear plates were an easy way to incorporate the bear theme, along with these cute plaid dessert plates for some variety.

We ordered the “Baby Bear is One” cake topper from Etsy and will definitely keep it as a special memento from Caleb’s first birthday. The cake stand is from Crate and Barrel and is one of my favorite modern entertaining pieces!

We use this letter board for all the parties we host in our home and it always adds a custom touch to the event without having to buy anything new!
