The first edition of our master bedroom had cheap white dressers as our nightstands. Initially, we hadn’t installed our master Ikea PAX closet yet, so there was absolutely no organization and no place to store our excess belongings, which made having 3-drawer dressers REALLY handy!

Original Version of our Master Bedroom
When we first moved in, we got these super affordable white 3-drawer dressers for less than $70 each and we knew it would suit our needs acting as bedside tables, as well as extra storage for the time being until we figured out how we wanted to decorate our bedroom.
We would store random things like extra blankets, towels, travel gear, down to random stuff like batteries and lightbulbs. Even though we knew the quality was cheap and the top part of the dresser already had started to bubble up after a year, it was actually pretty functional and carried us over until we could save up for better quality nightstands.
Swapping Out Drawer Handles
An easy hack to upgrade your drawers is to swap out the drawer handles! We purchased brass handles from amazon to completely upgrade our look, which made the cheap dresser look a million times better. Spray painting drawer knobs or handles is also another way to easily change up the look!
When it came time to pick new furniture for our master bedroom, I definitely knew that there was too much white going on – white walls with white nightstand with white bedding was a little too much for our liking. It did keep things light and bright in the space, but there was not enough contrast.
Picking New Nightstands
We considered all of these modern nightstand options and ended up purchasing these beautiful CB2 Oberlin modern nightstands. The wood gives the perfect amount of warmth, while the black drawer fronts offer the perfect dark accent to the otherwise light and bright space and white walls. What really drew me to this nightstand was the unique look of its black faux leather drawer fronts, which I had never seen before!
We definitely don’t regret having used our cheap white dressers temporarily before we were ready to design our master bedroom refresh. Sometimes it’s perfectly fine to get “temporary” furniture that you know you will one day upgrade! We absolutely love how our new CB2 nightstands help to transform the feel of our bedroom and add so much warmth and contrast to the space.
Here’s a before and after for you!
I came upon your blog because I actually the same bed and was thinking about getting the nightstands, before I even saw your blog! What a coincidence. However, I’m looking for a dresser for my room too, and not sure what would be a good style for it. Any ideas?
Haha what a coincidence! Love those nightstands so much. For our dresser, we got a 6-drawer dresser from Article and I think it complements the rest of the bedroom perfectly. Linked in our bedroom blog post – https://www.vivandtimhome.com/how-to-create-a-cozy-neutral-bedroom/
