In this post, we shared the best toilets to purchase from the popular Kohler line-up, along with a detailed review of the exact Kohler toilet we bought for our custom home.
This is NOT sponsored – just sharing our honest experience with the Kohler Veil, including lots of helpful photos and close-ups!
The Best Kohler Toilets to Buy:
The Kohler Veil One-Piece Skirted Toilet is the exact toilet that we bought for all the bathrooms in our custom home!
Here is how it turned out:
We love the modern minimalist design as well as how insanely easy it is to clean due to its features.
Over the past year of daily use, we’ve never had a single clog!
Head to the end of this post for a full detailed review of the Kohler Veil, including more close-ups!
The Kohler Memoirs Stately One-Piece Skirted Toilet is a great option if you’re looking for a more traditional-style toilet.
It has all of the features: elongated bowl, chair height, skirted trapway, and one-piece design.
This Kohler Innate Smart Toilet is a splurge option, but it does come with a large list of features.
First off, it has a one-piece design that appears much shorter than regular toilets.
It has a built-in bidet system with warm air drying, automatic motion control for seat opening and closing and flushing, an LED bowl nightlight, and a heated seat.
For the high price tag, it’s nice to see that it has all of these smart luxury toilet features!
This Kohler Highline Arc Toilet is a great budget-friendly option.
It offers chair-height seating (16.5”) and an elongated bowl which are features that are usually missing from standard toilet options.
It even comes with a soft close toilet seat. If you have a tight budget, you can’t go wrong with the Highline Arc Toilet!
The Kohler Veil Wall Hung Toilet is a beautiful option to consider if you’re looking for a wall-hung toilet.
Wall-hung toilets have their tanks concealed behind the wall, which allows the toilet to take up less space.
It can also be installed at any height which can be customized exactly for you.
However, there are additional parts you’ll need to purchase for the complete installation: in-wall tank, carrier system, and dual-flush actuator.
This greatly increases the price above the regular Veil toilet.
The Kohler Reach One-Piece Elongated Toilet was the runner-up toilet we considered for our home.
We liked its simple design and that it was one-piece and had a skirted trapway for ease of cleaning.
But we ended up liking the shape of the Veil more.
The Reach also came as chair height, which is too tall for both of us.
The Kohler Cimarron One-Piece Elongated Toilet is a very popular choice from Kohler.
It comes in a wide range of colors and from the reviews it seems to have a very strong flush which will help prevent clogs.
It comes as a chair-height toilet and has a one-piece design.
Our Kohler Veil Toilet Review
The exact model that we purchased was Kohler Veil 1.28 gpf Elongated Floor Mount One Piece Toilet in White (Model: K-1381-0).
How We Chose the Kohler Veil
With so many toilet options available to choose from, we based our purchasing decision on toilet seat height, bowl shape, budget, and design.
We first narrowed our search based on toilet size. Seat height and bowl shape are the 2 main dimensions that affect comfort.
Seat Height:
With both of us being short (5’1” and 5’9”), we decided on a standard-height toilet which is ideal for average or smaller people.
- Standard Height: ranges from 14.5” – 16” from the floor to the top of the seat
- Chair-Height: ranges from 17” – 19” from the floor to the top of the seat
For more information, you can check out Kohler’s Toilet Buying Guide which goes into much greater detail.
Toilet Bowl Shape:
As for the bowl shape, there are elongated toilets and round-front toilets. Elongated toilets have a longer bowl length which makes the seat more comfortable.
Round-front toilets can be used in a smaller bathroom or if space is tight, but elongated was a must-have for us.
Filtering by standard height and elongated bowl significantly narrowed down the number of toilets to choose from. It also appeared that most elongated toilets were chair-height.
Process of Elimination
After filtering by elongated, standard height, one-piece, and skirted trapway, there were only a couple of options that were not wildly out of budget.
Out of all the options, we liked the minimalist look of the Veil. Almost all of our bathroom fixtures are from Kohler which also helped finalize our decision.
Installation
Our plumber installed our Kohler Veil toilets without any issues during our new build.
It’s now been over a year since we moved into our custom home and have some opinions of this toilet that we shared below!
Pros: What We Like
1. Modern Minimalist Design
The clean and modern aesthetic of this toilet is what drew us to this particular model in the first place.
We LOVE how it turned out in our home and bought it for our entire house, including the powder room, primary bathroom, guest bathroom, and kid’s bathroom.
2. Easy to Clean
As most will relate, we both hate cleaning toilets. During our research, we found a few features of the Veil that made cleaning much easier.
We wanted a one-piece toilet – which has the top tank and bowl as a single piece. This removes the hard-to-clean gap that’s found on a two-piece toilet.
The Veil also has a curve between the tank and bowl which makes it even easier to clean than other one-piece toilets.
The trapway is the pipe that connects the bowl to the sewer line. On most toilets, this area is exposed which makes cleaning hard especially if the toilet is close to a wall or vanity.
The Veil has a skirted trapway base which hides the trapway and toilet bolts. This provides a uniform side to easily wipe clean.
3. Toilet Has Never Clogged
The Kohler Veil toilet has a very powerful flush. Over the 1 year of daily use, we never had a single clog in any of our toilets.
Even when flushing an excessive amount of toilet paper and waste, the Veil can clear the toilet without an issue.
Because of this, we’ve no longer stored a plunger in any of our bathrooms.
4. Soft Close Toilet Seat
It shouldn’t be a surprise that a toilet at this price point comes with a soft close toilet seat. But it was nice not having to buy and replace them just to get the soft close feature.
Soft close has now become a requirement for all our future toilets!
This wasn’t an advertised feature, but we liked how the toilet seat and cover appear as one piece when closed.
The cover encloses the toilet seat which gives a nice minimalist look when the seat and cover are closed.
5. Easy Access To Replacement Parts
We haven’t had to replace any parts yet and have not had any issues so far, but it’s helpful that Kohler provides service parts diagrams on their product listings where you can easily order replacement parts.
I’ve seen that it can sometimes be hard to find replacement parts for some other toilet brands.
Cons: What We Dislike
1. Requiring the Veil Toilet Seat
Due to the specific shape of the Veil, if we’d ever need a replacement toilet seat, we’d have to buy the expensive Veil specific seat and cover.
2. Dual Flush Feature
Over the past year of daily use of our Veil toilets, we have yet to figure out how the dual-flush function works.
Kohler advertises a dual-flush feature that offers 0.8 or 1.28 gpf (3.0 or 4.8 lpf). But the Veil doesn’t come with a dual flush lever or have any indication that the included lever has multiple ways to flush.
It might have been something we missed, but we feel that Kohler didn’t make the dual-flush feature intuitive enough.
Other Veil Models
Kohler has an extensive line of different Veil toilet models. They range from a very high end tankless smart toilet to a more affordable two-piece standard toilet.
We were looking at the Veil Toilet with bidet holes for our house but decided against it because it was over budget. The toilets were the same price, but we’d have to purchase an additional seat with a bidet.
There’s also a Wall Mounted Veil that has a similar look to the model we ended up getting.
Optional Accessories
Kohler now offers customizable toilet levers that can be purchased separately. They come in brushed brass, brushed nickel, and matte black.
The matte black lever would match our other Kohler fixtures, but for now we’re holding off since we can’t justify the high price of the lever (would anyone even notice the difference?).
Is It Worth the Price?
The Kohler Veil toilet is a pricey choice and an upgrade from the other options mentioned, but it had exactly what we were looking for so we have no regrets buying it.
With experiencing NO clogs whatsoever in the past year and being SO easy to clean, we found that the Veil was well worth its high price tag!
Who knew we could love a toilet so much but we really do love how its minimalist look completes our modern bathroom design style and would recommend it!
