The Exact Hanging Egg Chair We Chose For Our Patio

The CB2 Pod Hanging Outdoor Chair is the exact hanging egg chair we chose for our covered patio! When browsing egg chairs, I came across these CB2 chairs and instantly knew they were the one!

I love the unique two-toned design of this chair with the bottom half being more closed in. This actually offers more privacy from neighbors when I am relaxing in the chair in our backyard!

We also bought these Amazon taupe cushions to complete the chair, which is pictured below, since I didn’t like the accompanying brown cushion that is offered on CB2. I searched for a LONG time for a complementing cushion that would be super comfortable and this one works really well for this hanging chair!

They were pretty pricey and there are definitely cheaper options mentioned in this roundup as an alternative. We personally love the unique look of the chair, so it was well worth it for us!

We love the resort feel that these chairs offer and they make our patio so cozy and inviting. We relax on these chairs on our covered porch every evening after dinner and love them so much!

When not in use, we do use a string/rope to tie the two chairs together slightly so that they don’t twist or swing too much if it’s windy.

How We Hung Our Patio Hanging Egg Chairs

Hanging Chair Location

When building our house, we knew we wanted a pair of these CB2 hanging egg chairs at this exact spot in our covered patio. We had given our builder the exact spots (shown below) to install wood reinforcement to allow us to hang these chairs at the precise position we wanted.

Otherwise, they would have to be drilled into the ceiling joist to be strong enough, which did not land exactly where we wanted the chairs hung.

We used SketchUp to figure out the hanging location of the egg chairs and we’re happy with how it turned out in real life!

For reference, this area of our covered patio is 11’3″ wide and 9’6″ tall to the bottom of the beam where the sloped vaulted ceiling begins.

The dimensions of these hanging egg chairs are 37.5″ W x 34.5″ D x 47.5″ H, so we mounted them around 21 inches from the patio concrete outer edge.

For the left chair, the eye bolt was installed 44.5″ from the left edge (we have a column on the left which is why this measurement is greater than the right). For the right chair, the eye bolt was installed 36.5″ from the right edge.

How to Hang Outdoor Egg Chair — *This is what we sent to our builder for the location of the wood supports and “X” is where eye bolts would be installed.*

Hardware Details

Our builder told us to provide them with the following hardware:

1/2″ Eye Bolts
- We actually went with 304 stainless steel eye bolts which are definitely overkill, but galvanized steel is a more cost-effective option and would have worked just fine too, as our patio is covered and protected from direct rain.
1/2″ Washers
1/2″ Nuts

For chair installation, we also needed to buy an additional pair of 5/16″ D Shape Shackles. The CB2 hanging chairs came with one each to attach the chain to the chair, but we needed another set to attach the chain to the eye bolt.

Hanging Chair Installation

The builder secured the eye bolts by tightening the nuts and washers around the wood blocking that had been installed. Additionally, they applied glue to prevent the nuts from coming loose.

Our builder did mention to watch out for when kids use these chairs, that you really can’t be rough or twist the chain too much, or else the hook may fall out. They glued ours in pretty well and we are careful to just slightly swing (and mostly hang) on these chairs!

How High to Hang:

During the chair installation, we found that the included chain was a bit too long, causing the chairs to sit too low. To achieve the perfect height, we used an angle grinder to cut off a few links from the chain (we cut 5 links off to be exact).

To figure out how high to hang the chairs, we used a normal patio chair as a reference which was around 18 inches from the ground to the seat. So for the hanging chair, we also hung it such that it ended up being 18 inches from the ground to the bottom seat opening.

With these CB2 hanging chairs in particular, it dips below even more where you sit, so the overall height of the chair ended up not being as high as I initially thought, but I think this height works well.

You basically want your legs to be able to touch the ground slightly, which makes it easier to get in and out of the chair.

Also, if you are hanging a pair of chairs as we did, make sure you double-check the length of the chains the chair comes with! For us, one chain actually had one extra link than the other, which would have resulted in the chair height not matching exactly.
