Generally, the height of your tree should be based on the height of your ceilings. If you have high ceilings, you’ll want a taller tree to fill up the space.
We have 9 ft ceilings in our home, so I personally really like a 7 or 7.5 ft tree height.
A 7 ft Christmas tree height allows for plenty of space for a tree topper, plus around another foot of empty space before the ceiling begins.
I also find that a taller tree can be more time-consuming to decorate and we’re very happy with the size of our 7 ft Christmas tree!
TREE WIDTH:
You should also take into account how WIDE the Christmas tree is. A wider tree can easily make a small room feel cramped, so if you have limited space, you may want to opt for a slim Christmas tree.
In the past, we’ve made the mistake of ordering a Christmas tree that had a lot of tips thinking it would be very lush and full. But it was WAY too wide and took up so much space in our living room that we could barely walk around it! We decided to sell it and get a new tree the following year.
No matter what height or width you choose, make sure your tree is proportionate to the rest of your room for a balanced look!

Are flocked Christmas trees messy?
If you’re considering getting a flocked Christmas tree this year, you might be wondering if they’re messy. The short answer is yes, they can be messy – but in our personal experience, it’s only messy WHILE you’re putting up the tree.
Each year, after we’ve finished decorating the tree with ornaments, we simply vacuum the floor to pick up all the flocking that have fallen and we usually never have to worry about cleaning flocking for the rest of the season until we take the tree down.
So it is messy during setup but for us, it’s not an issue at all to maintain during the season!
