Modern Outdoor Sectionals for Summer Entertaining
April 30, 2020
I’ve narrowed down my top picks of modern outdoor sectionals that offer plenty of seating for all your summer entertaining needs! In general, outdoor furniture can be very pricey, so I’ve stuck to stores like All Modern, Wayfair, Overstock, Walmart, and World Market, which I’ve found to be good value and cost effective.
These outdoor sofas have a sleek modern look to them with a neutral color palette. I specifically chose sectionals that have a white, cream, gray or black color scheme to provide a neutral foundation for your outdoor space. That way, you can easily change up the look with a pop of color through throw pillows and other decor.
Towards the end of this post, I also share our experience with the outdoor sectional that we bought for our rooftop deck!

Our Rooftop Deck Outdoor Sectional
Living in a townhouse, our outdoor space consists of a rooftop deck, which doesn’t have any covering overhead. All our outdoor furniture is fully exposed to Chicago’s bipolar weather. So, the thought of having white cushions was a little intimidating and we needed something a little darker to hide any possible dirt. After a bunch of research, we ended up purchasing this outdoor sectional from Overstock (also can be found at All Modern).
MODERN & MODULAR
We loved that it was modular, making it possible to set up the sectional in various configurations based on our needs. It also had the modern contemporary look that we wanted, with dark gray cushions and a black frame. The set comes with a glass coffee table too, which I may switch out one day, but works just fine for the time being. The reviews were good and free shipping from Overstock doesn’t hurt either!
Our first year with this sectional, we kinda forgot that you’re supposed to put outdoor cushions away to protect them and just left them out (oops). After any rain, the cushions would always retain water and we would have to drain out the water and let it dry. Overall, we were pretty bad at taking care of the sectional and even left everything out during its first winter (cushions and all!) with no tarp to protect it from snow and ice. Well, the sectional actually has COMPLETELY held up despite our lack of care for it! The synthetic wicker frame still looks great and is as good as new.
We finally got a deck box to store all our cushions away and help to protect the sectional, which is something we should’ve done a long time ago! I would definitely recommend our sectional to anyone looking for cost-effective modern outdoor furniture to maximize seating for entertaining guests!
Hope this has helped you on your search for sofas and seating for your outdoor space! Check out our post on patio furniture top picks for more inspiration.
